A grid-connected solar system is a great way to do your part for the environment. Generating power on your roof will make you far more conscious of the power you are using, which can help remind you to turn off that extra light. Not to mention that producing your own power will reduce your electricity bill!
The Enphase M215 micro-inverter is capable of feeding power back to the utility grid. This package includes Enphase real-time internet-based monitoring software which provides an easy way to interface the inverter with your computer, so that you can view and manipulate the power production data. This inverter carries a twenty-five (25) year warranty, which is the longest warranty for any inverter on the market. The warranty matches the length of the warranty for the solar modules.
With the Enphase system, a single micro-inverter is used for each solar module and all power transmission is AC. This also allows performance monitoring per module when used with the Enlighten monitoring and analysis website.
These systems are fairly new in Canada and you will have to get in touch with your local utility to find out if they will allow you to interconnect and what they would like to see in the way of protection and approvals.
Please Note: For safety reasons these systems willl not power your house in the case of a utility grid failure. In order to create a safe environment for workers to work on your power lines, the inverter cannot feed power to the utility grid during a power outage. It is important to note that this system does not include any batteries nor can batteries be added to the system later.
