In the early winter of 2002, EA was contacted by BC Hydro. They had a problem and needed a rapid solution. They had installed a wind monitoring tower (Met tower) to measure the wind resource on a remote mountaintop on northern Vancouver Island. But the instruments were freezing up, and they needed a few hundred watts of power to operate heaters. They were looking at a huge expense to operate a generator continuously to power this load. After considering this problem for a few minutes during the initial phone call, we asked them if they had considered using a small scale wind generator for this purpose. It was a prospective wind site, after all. EA was awarded the contract under some rush order provisions and the site was comissioned shortly thereafter. System Details:
EA Maintained this site for a few years until BC Hydro pulled the plug on their wind program. The data gathered from this site is available from BChydro.com.
